How to choose a boomerang

Tips for choosing a boomerang and distinctive features that are worth paying attention to.

If you decide to buy a boomerang and are unsure which one to choose, here are some of our practical tips to help you make your choice.

There are a huge number of shapes and types of boomerangs. When choosing the first boomerang, it is best to focus on the returning models. They will give the first idea of how a boomerang flies and how to launch it.

Does he always come back?

No, not always. The current opinion that the boomerang always returns is not entirely true. In order for the boomerang to return to you, you need to make some efforts. Just like that, he won't come back. If you throw it at random, then no miracle will happen, and it will fly at random. Or maybe it won't fly at all. Only the laws of physics work here.

The boomerang returns if:

  1. It's a well-made, returning boomerang.
  2. The throwing technique is followed, i.e. the throw is made with the correct tilt and sufficient force.
  3. Weather conditions make it possible to launch and control its flight.

What to pay attention to

Size and weight. Large boomerangs, which are usually heavy, can only be launched by an adult man aged 16-18. You need to have a strong enough hand to make an energetic throw. Catching a big boomerang is not easy, and sometimes dangerous. Compact boomerangs are much more convenient to handle, easier to catch, and some models fly further than large ones.

Baby boomerang

From what we have, the models Arrow and Fan. These models are easy to manage and relatively easy to catch. However, these boomerangs still need a fairly sharp throw, otherwise they will not be able to fly properly. Therefore, not all children aged 10-12 will be able to cope with them. It's not about the strength of the throw, it's about the speed. The boomerang weighs only 40-50 grams, and you don't need much strength to throw it. We need speed and sharpness. In general, evaluate the abilities of a young athlete yourself.

For children under 10 years old, at your discretion, you can try the above Arrow, for physically developed and active children. And it is better to choose the simplest, plastic or soft material, very light boomerang. We don't have any, but it's not hard to find.

For beginners

If you haven't had any experience with a boomerang, you can start with the simplest Arrow and Fan. There should be no difficulties with them. The flight range is about 15-20 meters. A simple throw, a predictable flight path, and a more or less safe return.

More interesting options for practicing launches and mastering throwing techniques are Hare and Hook M. The flight range is 20-30 meters. You can try different throwing options with them: stronger, weaker, higher, more or less tilt, etc. With them, you will understand how to handle a "regular", classic boomerang. You can see how the flight changes from how you hold it and throw it, and what you need to make it return as close to the launch point as possible.

These were models made of plywood, or similar, affordable materials. As for more expensive models, for example Hook and others, then they are not much more difficult to handle than the same Hare (Hare). The question is, whether you feel sorry for him or not, to scratch and beat him while he learns how to launch a boomerang.

For advanced users

For advanced or experienced (and, in our case, those practical people who prefer not to order sushi for 3-4 mowers, but to eat at home and spend it on a cool boomerang :)), you can look at boomerangs made of natural wood Hook, Mega Hook and Fan Laminated.

These boomerangs are more expensive to a large extent because they are much more complex in production and the cost of the materials they are made of.

The Hook and Mega Hook fly at 35-50 meters, depending on weight, settings, and weather conditions. The further a boomerang can fly, the more precisely it needs to be positioned and thrown. And if you have no experience, then there is a risk that the boom may be damaged due to an incorrect or inaccurate throw, because you need to throw more or less strongly. Although this is more of a horror story, a warning, because if you follow the instructions and start the boom on soft grassy ground, then most likely you risk just getting it dirty (after you can wash it, wipe it).

For the very advanced

If you've mastered the classic boomerang and you want something more extreme, then welcome to the long-range boomerang category. It's difficult, but interesting. They don't fly like "regular" boomerangs, and they need to be launched differently.

We have two models of long-range boomerangs: Challenger and Naawi. I'll make a reservation right away. These boomerangs are made of wood, and I don't recommend them for launches. I'll explain why. Long-range boomerangs are not intended for catching. You won't catch them. They will fall. Always. Often at high speed. It's only a matter of time how long such a boomerang will "live." If the ground is soft, without stones, then yes, you can practice for a while.

In general, if you are seriously thinking about mastering long-range boomerangs, then I recommend looking for plastic models, composite or something similar to composite (textolite, carbon, etc.), something that will not be a pity to "kill".

A boomerang as a gift

A real wooden boomerang is a great gift idea. Laminated and solid wood boomerangs will be an excellent choice for a gift to a person who loves and appreciates natural wood products. Each of them is unique in its texture. This is the main advantage and difference of these boomerangs from cheaper ones.

Laminated is a boomerang made of thin lamellae (strips) of wood, such as Hook, or layered, like Mega Hook. They are structurally different, but all are made of precious woods, each of which has its own natural color and texture.

Many people consider a boomerang to be a gift that carries a certain meaning. They often write various wishes on the boomerang or leave other marks. In our case, we can make inlaid inscriptions or place other graphic elements that fit on the boomerang. It's like an engraving, only the words seem to be "embedded" in the tree itself. Such an element or inscription does not fade or fade over time.

We can also do the engraving.
