Find a large open area without people, animals, cars, or anything else that a boomerang can crash into. The size of the open area depends on the type of boomerang, and should be at least twice the range of the boomerang in all directions. For example, a boomerang Challenger made of wood, having a range of 80-120 meters, can easily fly away at a distance of more than 120 meters in the opposite direction to the launch! And this is without wind.
-
Make sure that passers-by or onlookers know that boomerangs are flying and they should stay away. Warn the audience in advance about the launch, as well as that you can shout (for example) "Careful", and that in this case they should duck and cover their heads.
If someone is with you on the platform, they should not lose sight of the boomerang and pay attention to the trajectory and flight time. You and everyone else should always keep an eye on the boomerang while it is in flight. If you lose sight of the boomerang, turn around, duck down and cover your head. Do not get up before 10-15 seconds.
-
Take into account the weather conditions. Do not launch the boomerang when the wind speed is more than 4 m/s. The wind can very much break the flight path, making it unpredictable. With a weak but gusty wind, it is also difficult to control the boomerang.
-
Boomerang should only be used by adults. If there are children on the playground, throwing or just watching, be sure to keep an eye on them. Children often lack common sense and an assessment of the danger.

You should understand that, even after taking all precautions, there is always a possibility that a launched boomerang may return or simply fall directly into you or someone present, with a very high speed and a difficult to predict trajectory. At the same time, it does not become clear until the last moment at which point the boomerang will fly, and there is no time to react somehow. This can happen!
Therefore, when launching a boomerang, you should always be prepared for such a development of events, take into account these risks and be responsible for yourself and others.
